Wastefulness really irks me.
I am relatively pissed off. Some “friends” (in quotations because I only really consider one of them a friend anymore - he doesn’t live in this particular house though) rent a house together in my hometown. It’s your typical “punk house” full of cultural appropriating, white privilege guys and gals (they’ve named it the ‘Tetonka Fortress’)...

Ha.
The government in Egypt shut down the Al-Jazeera bureau in Cairo. Seems they are getting more and more desperate for control.

Unproductive.
Didn’t wake up until 2:00pm today, and I probably would have slept even later if Ethan hadn’t called me. I feel like such a failureee, but I woke up wide awake and without feeling sore for the first time in months. I probably needed to sleep that long. But I was gonna accomplish so much today and it’s already dark but I’ve only been awake for 4-ish hours. Fail. :( Also...

Third World Protest as US Spectator Sport →
zuky: I’m not a fan of the US cultural habit of turning political turmoil in faraway lands into a gawkworthy spectator sport. I came to this realization in the aftermath of the 1989 protests in Tiananmen Square, as it gradually dawned on me that sheltered, largely clueless people who had no stake in what was happening had little business pushing their intrusive, hungry gaze into such...

sweetcalamity asked: I understand what you are saying, definitely. I would never attempt to speak for someone else if they didn't want me to and I had no idea what they had struggled with. That would be unfair, ridiculous, offensive, and just... wrong. sweetcalamity: Half-doing Stats homework, half paying attention to Tumblr… I understand that privilege, not understanding or acknowledging your own privilege, and abusing that privilege can be a very negative and harmful thing. URGENT: Egypt has shut off the internet →
I just received a call from a friend in Cairo (I won’t say who it is now because he’s a prominent activist) telling me neither his DSL nor his USB internet service is working. I’ve just checked with two other friends in different parts of Cairo and their internet is not working either. This just happened 10 minutes ago — and perhaps not uncoincidentally just after AP TV posted a video of a...

How the disabled were dehumanised - Laurie Penny →
krona: thefeministhub: It’s official: disabled people aren’t allowed to be independent. This week, amid rows about how this country treats people with disabilities, it was announced that the government will be phasing out the Independent Living Fund (ILF), a vital stipend that allows more than 21,000 “severely disabled people to pay for help so they can live independently”. Such provisions,...

My anxiety is so paralyzing sometimes.
A big snowstorm is coming, and I was done with classes for the day, so I decided I should drive home and do work there rather than drive home later when the snow was bad. It was aroud noontime, and there were people with their cars sitting in the lanes waiting for people to leave. A car saw me put my backpack in my trunk and then pulled up until the car was right next to mine. Now, I’m...
