So I’ve been snooping around the internet to see if anyone else with my healthcare insurance provider who also has a chronic illness has run into the problem of them telling their doctors that you no longer take your medications and so they won’t cover them anymore… or something(?!) I’m still not entirely sure what the hell is going on with it b/c my mom has been wonderful and told me she would take care of it for me and get it all settled. But I’ve found a few interesting things..
Someone from CT, which is where my healthcare is stationed (b/c I’m still young enough to be under my parent’s insurance):
10/12/11: Without notice, UHC dropped two of our children, claiming they had another provider. Now, UHC has dropped my daughters, a twin, from the vision plan without reason. There has never been any contact from UHC to explain the changes or that they had occurred.
After discovering we were being denied coverage, a call was made and the children were reinstated for healthcare, but not vision. Nobody at UHC has any documentation why this is happening.
Someone from Colorado:
9/10/11: I have United Health Care insurance through my work. I signed up for the “100% paid preventive colonoscopy”. I received my final paper work from the hospital with the 3-4 potential charges that will occur. Luckily, I really read it and found out that they will not code the procedure until after they do it. If they found one polyp that puts the 100% preventive into a medical status, the payment would be needed in full.
From Oregon:
2/3/10: Our daughter is in an inpatient intensive care facility. We were told by Ms. S. from UH yesterday that our doctor had recommended our daughter’s immediate release and that further coverage for the facility would be denied. Stunningly, this turned out to be “false” as our doctor recommended exactly the opposite.

Basically, I’m thinking that this is the beginning of them trying to deny me coverage of anything helping with my disease and I am not going to go down without a fight. And I’m definitely going to keep blogging about this, so if you’re interested to see just how evil a healthcare corporation can get, I’m sure I’ll have some stories for you.
diverticulitis. We almost got kicked out of our local care provider because UHC would
